Fiji Bati to play PNG Kumuls

The Fiji Bati Rugby League team will play the PNG Kumuls on Sunday, 30 October 2011, at Kgamuga Oval in Mt Hagen, Papua New Guinea.  A second match will be held on Sunday, 6 November 2011, at Port Moresby.

Lincoln Drags Car Race on Today

The Fiji Car Club is holding the Lincoln Drags Car Race today, Sunday, 23 October 2011, at the Taunovo Airstrip, Deuba, Fiji.  There will be a full time DJ and food will also be on sale. Melbourne Cup Calcutta - Rotary Club of Suva

Public Seminar on Cloud Computing

A Public Seminar on Cloud Computing will be held on Tuesday, 18 October 2011, from 6pm to 8pm, at the Marine Science Lecture Theatre, University of the South Pacific, Laucala Bay, Suva. It's 'Pinkoctober' month


From Mai Life Magazine, "This month marks the Pink Ribbon month to mark breast cancer awareness. Each year the incidence of breast cancer impacts many lives in Fiji. Many times these cancers seem to hit without warning and are found only in a progressed stage. According to reports a total of 370 cancer cases alone were recorded in the first three months of this year. It's 'Pinkoctober' month, bring out your pink ribbons to commemorate breast cancer month."

A parade to celebrate Fiji Day will be held in Suva today, Friday, 7 October 2011.  Fiji celebrates 41 years of independence on Monday, 10 October.  The parade activities, which starts around 9.15am, should centre around Albert Park, Suva.

MH Fiji Open Hockey Tournament

The MH Fiji Open Hockey Tournament will be held from Friday, 7 October, to Monday, 10 October 2011 at the National Hockey Centre, Laucala Bay, Suva.


A visiting Northern Indians teams will participate at the Tournament.  The Indian visitors join 11 local teams in the competition.

India is a leader in hockey so the Northern India Districts side brings skills that can only be good for local hockey enthusiasts.

The Marist Volleyball Tournament will be held from Monday, 10 October, to Friday, 15 October 2011, at the Tattersalls Leisure Centre and the Vodafone Arena, Laucala Bay, Suva.

Annual Bilibili Race on this Fiji Day weekend

The Annual Bilibili Race will be held on Monday, 10 October 2011, along the Sigatoka River, Sigatoka, Fiji.  A total of 12 teams will take part.

  • The Naviti Resort,
  • Fiji Hideaway Resort,
  • Outrigger On the Lagoon Fiji,
  • Sigatoka Electric,

  • The Pearl of the South Pacific Resort.
This is the 27th year of the race which began in 1984.  Sandy Point Cottage managing director Bob Kennedy was the founder of the race in 1984 when he was the general manager of the Reef Resort which is now known as Outrigger on the Lagoon Fiji.

The event promotes friendly rivalry between the staff of the resorts along the Coral Coast and to use the Sigatoka River as the main point.  Over the years hotels from Suva and Nadi joined the event.

Guests of hotels are usually encouraged to participate in the activities.

Japan Animation Film Festival

A Japan Animation Film Festival will be held from Tuesday, 18 October, to Thursday, 20 October 2011, from 6pm onwards on each day, at the Village 6 Cinemas, Suva. 

The films that will be screened include :
  • Galaxy Express 999 on Tuesday, 18 October;
  • The Dagger of KAMUI on Wednesday, 19 October;
  • LAPUTA: The Castle in the Sky on Thursday, 20 October;
  • The Girl who Leapt through Time, on Friday, 21 October.
Admission is Free.  Please obtain ticket from Village 6 cinemas office after the 17 October.

The festival is sponsored by the Japan Foundation.

Contemporary Japanese Crafts Exhibition

The Fiji Museum is holding a Contemporary Japanese Crafts Exhibition for the month of October 2011 at the Fiji Museum in Suva, Fiji.  The exhibition is supported by the Embassy of Japan in Fiji and the Japan Foundation.  Pls visit the Museum to view the items on display.

‎Cycling Fiji is holding a 2011 Tour of Fiji event this weekend.  The events scheduled are :


Stage One, Saturday, 8 October, 8am start

  • Open 85km - Start from Esquires Coffee Shop Victoria Parade, into Reservoir Rd, Princes Rd, Rewa Bridge, Korovou, Finish at end of tar seal towards Rakiraki;
  • u18 Male 45km - Start from Nausori back road, Finish at end of tar seal towards Rakiraki;
  • u18 Female 25km - Start from Korovou, Finish at end of tar seal towards Rakiraki.
Stage Two, Sunday, 9 October, 8am start

  • 20km Time Trial Loop, Rakiraki - Rakiraki, All Categories, Start in descending seeds, 1min intervals.

Stage Three, Sunday, 9 October, 1pm start

  • Open - Start Rakiraki, Kings Rd towards Suva, Turn around at the end of the tar seal, Finish Rakiraki;
  • u18 Male - Start Rakiraki, Kings Rd towards Suva, Turn around at the 2nd cone, Finish Rakiraki;
  • u18 Female - Start Rakiraki, Kings Rd towards Suva, Turn around at the 1st cone, Finish before Rakiraki.
Stage Four, Monday 10 October, 10am start

  • Open Men 90km - Start Korovou, Kings Rd towards Rakiraki, Turn around at end of tar seal, Korovou, Coast Rd to Natovi Jetty, Turn around at Natovi Jetty, Finish Korovou;
  • u18 Male 50km - Start Korovou, Kings Rd towards Rakiraki, Turn around at 2nd cone, Korovou, Coast Rd towards Natovi Jetty, Turn around at 2nd cone, Finish before Korovou;
  • u18 Female 20km - Start Korovou, Kings Rd towards Rakiraki, Turn around at 1st cone, Korovou, Coast Rd towards Natovi Jetty, Turn around at 1st cone, Finish before Korovou;
  • Victory ride into Suva from Colo i Suva via Reservoir Rd;
  • Finish at Esquires Victoria Parade.
