Fiji Museum : Historical Fiji Photo Competition

The Fiji Museum is organising a Historical Fiji Photo Competition.  Pls send your best pics (has to be your own - 1 photo per person) of any site in Fiji (whether it is a sacred land site, building, anything you consider to be historical) and state in two or three sentences why you think it is. Winner to be announced on 22 September 2011.

Fundraising Dinner for CMF Secondary School

A Red Tie Dinner is being organised for Friday, 16 September 2011, starting 6.30pm, at the Novotel Convention Centre, Lami, near Suva, Fiji. Funds raised from the dinner will be used for building the CMF Secondary School at Newtown, Kinoya. Guest Speaker will be Rev Suliasi Kurulo. 2011 Milo Kaji Rugby Championship

The 2011 Milo Kaji Rugby Championship will be held from Tuesday, 23 August, to Thursday, 24 August 2011, at Prince Charles Park, Nadi, Fiji. A total of 22 Kaji rugby and 21 netball teams from around the country are expected to be part of the annual affair. Kadavu, Ovalau and Moturiki are participating for the first time. The teams to beat are Suva and Nadi.

Volcom Fiji Pro will be held from 2012 to 2014

The Volcom Fiji Pro will be held from 2012 to 2014. The contest will mark Volcom’s first ASP World Title event and a much-desired return to the world-class breaks of Cloudbreak and Restaurants for the ASP Top 34. Namotu World Paddle Challenge

The Namotu World Paddle Challenge will be held from Sunday, 13 November, to Friday, 18 November 2011 from Natadola Beach to Namotu Island Resort.

The Namotu World Paddle Challenge will not only be one of the most progressive and dynamic racing events in the history of the sport, featuring both long distance and surf sprint formats, but will also be an exciting celebration of the growth and diversity of Stand Up Paddling, one of the world's fastest growing sports.

Events planned include :


  • A youth clinic for the underprivileged youth in Fiji to experience Ocean Sports leading to the culturally driven Opening Ceremony at the InterContinental Resort
  • 19 mile downwinder from the InterContinental Hotel at Natadola Beach to Namotu Island Resort: following one of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, the steady tradewinds and ideal orientation of the reef will make this one of the most beautiful downwind courses to date, not to mention the beautiful landmarks along the way, such as the infamous Cloudbreak reef
  • The Namotu Surf Slalom will be a dynamic and exciting short course that will go in and out of the surf in front of the beautiful Namotu Island Resort providing both thrills and spills for the crowd, the media and the athletes themselves
  • The Cloudbreak Surf Exhibition will showcase the magic that Fiji has to offer in the surf, as top athletes such as World Champion Kai Lenny, legends Dave Kalama and Robby Naish and Jamie Mitchell to mention just a few will take on one of the most beautiful waves in the world

Fiji meets Tonga in a rugby test match on Saturday, 13 August 2011, starting 3.30pm at Churchill Park, Lautoka, Fiji.  This is part of two home-and-away test matches between the two countries.

An Old Skool Dance Competition will be held on Saturday, 13 August 2011, from 6.30pm at The Fiji Museum.  Dress Code : Yesteryear.  Competition Entry Fee is F$50.00 per couple while Admission Fee is F$10.00 per person.  Prizes include :

Photographic Exhibit on Climate Change - Fiji Museum

A photographic exhibit on climate change will be held on Friday, 19 August 2011, from 8am to 11am, at the Fiji Museum Temporary Exhibition Space and Art Gallery, Suva.  The exhibition aims to put a youthful Pacific face to the show before it is taken to Durban, South Africa where global talks on climate change will be held.

2011 Deans Trophy Semi Finals


The Deans Trophy Semi Finals will be held on Saturday, 6 August 2011. This year sees a new format where the Under 18 teams will play for the Deans Trophy. The Under 19 teams will now compete for the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union Cup. Under 18 teams that will play in the semi finals include :


  • Ratu Kadavulevu School vs Ratu Navula Secondary School;
  • Queen Victoria School vs Lelean Memorial School.
