Pacific Rugby Cup : Tonga A vs Samoa A

Tonga A will play Samoa A in a Pacific Rugby Cup match on Saturday, 26 March 2011, starting 3.30pm at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka. Tickets are F$2.00 per adult and F$1.00 per child under 12 years of age and can be bought at the gates.

Round 5 2011 Vodafone Fiji Secondary School (Rugby League) Cup

Round 5 of the 2011 Vodafone Fiji Secondary School (Rugby League) Cup will be held on Saturday, 26 March 2011, from 9am to 3pm, at Buckhurst and Bidesi Parks, Laucala Bay, Suva. Schools playing include Lelean Memorial School, Ratu Kadavulevu School, Queen Victoria School, Suva Grammar School, John Wesley, Sila Central, Nasinu Secondary School, Waidina Secondary School and Nabua Secondary School.

Candlelight Interfaith Memorial Service

A Candlelight Interfaith Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, 26 March 2011, from 7pm to 8pm at the AusAid Lecture Theatre, University of the South Pacific, Laucala Bay, Suva, for those that lost their lives in the recent disasters at Japan, Christchurch and Queensland. The service will be led by Father John Bonato, USPSA and students and also mark Earth Hour 2011. All are invited.

IRB Hong Kong Sevens Weekend

The 2011 IRB Hong Kong Sevens Tournament is on this weekend with matches starting today, Friday, 25 March, from 8.30pm Fiji Time. Fiji's matches will be on as follows :
  • Friday, 25 March, 9.14pm, Fiji vs Malaysia;
  • Saturday, 26 March, 5.26pm, Fiji vs Russia; and
  • Saturday, 26 March, 9.50pm, Fiji vs Kenya.
All finals (from the quarters onwards), will be played on Sunday, 27 March 2011, starting at 1pm. The whole tournament will be aired live on Fiji One Television.

Holi Festival

The Holi Festival will be celebrated on Saturday, 26 March 2011, from 1pm to 6pm, at the UN Park. The festival is a fun-filled and popular occasion in the northern part of India but also celebrated by Hindus around the world. It is an occasion where people smear each other with bright coloured powders, which is known as Gulal, and coloured water. It is believed that the bright colours represent energy, life, and joy.

Tsunamis and Nuclear Radiation : Causes & Efffects - Information Session

An Information Session for the general public on "Tsunamis and Nuclear Radiation : Causes and Effects" will be held on Monday, 21 March 2011, from 6pm to 7.30pm, at the AusAid Lecture Theatre 092-001, University of the South Pacific, Laucala Bay, Suva. The session organised by the School of Engineering & Physics will include short presentations and demonstration of some equipment used in monitoring radiation. Concert of Hope

A Concert of Hope providing a full day of good live music, dance performances, etc, will be held on Saturday, 2 April 2011, from 2pm to 8pm at Albert Park, Suva. Funds raised from the concert will be provided to the Save The Children Fund Fiji and to victims affected in the Christchurch earthquake. Fiji Trade Expo and 18th MSG Summit

Fiji will host the 18th Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG) Summit from Wednesday, 23 March, to Thursday, 31 March 2011, at the Boselevu Vakaturaga Complex, at Nasese, Suva. At the same time, a Fiji Trade Expo will be held from Monday, 28 March, to Thursday, 31 March at the same venue. Fundraising concert for Christchurch earthquake survivors

A concert will be held tonight, Thursday, 17 March 2011, at The Playhouse, Selbourne Street, Suva, to raise funds for the survivors of the earthquake that hit Christchurch last month. Artists to perform include Beth Vuatalevu, Salome Baravilala, Nicole Montu, Mone Kevu and Gary Manuel. Tickets are selling at F$10.00 per person.

Uto Ni Yalo prepares for another journey

The Uto Ni Yalo is preparing for another journey to protect and preserve our oceans. Organised by the Fiji Islands Voyaging Society, the 'Uto ni Yalo' will sail for New Zealand this month. It will take an estimated 7 to 8 days. While in Auckland, the Uto ni Yalo will be fitted with solar powered engines before embarking on a trip to Hawaii. In the Tuamotu Islands in Tahiti, the Vaka of the Cook Islands and Tahiti will join the flotilla. All seven canoes will undertake the voyage to Hawaii using traditional navigation methods. Crew from all seven vaka will be acting as cultural and environmental ambassadors of the Pacific.
