City of Suva Tournament

Badminton players are gearing up for the first ever “CITY OF SUVA CHALLENGE” which will be held at the Yat Sen Hall on Saturday 11th June 2011 beginning at 8am. Competition will be held in two categories – Open Division and B Division and will see some very strong and challenging performances especially from the National Team. Making a come back to the competition court is Norman Bentley who has been out of play due to injury. With a very powerful and quick left back-hand, Norman is out to prove and demonstrate his position in the squad is justified. This is going to be a real interesting tournament as it will give team management the opportunity to gauge and assess the performance of the National Team. The Team has been training under new coach Brent Munday for the last six weeks. Athletes have been very committed to training and have lifted their performance to another level. With the guidance of Kate Warren, the fitness trainer, players have been able to strengthen their weak areas especially with endurance and fitness. This tournament will be a tell all for those who have put in the hard work. Management will also use this tournament to identify the team pairs for competition at the Pacific Games. During training, some very interesting and encouraging doubles partnership have emerged and it will be good to see them perform at competition level. Members of the Development Squad, Train On Teams and Social players will also be competing. Competition ends at 12:00pm with prizegiving. Email: violetwill@hotmail.com
