2010 Kula Film Awards and Dance Competition

The 2010 Kula Film Awards and Dance Competition will be held on Friday, 9 July, and Saturday, 10 July 2010. The Dance Competition will be on Friday, 9 July, starting at 6pm at the Tattersalls Leisure Centre, Laucala Bay, Suva. The Kula Film Awards will be held on Saturday, 10 July 2010, starting at 6pm at the same venue. Tickets are on sale at F$5.00 per person at the Fiji Audio Visual Commission and at SPR's Suva store.

Welcome the Uto Ni Yalo home

The Uto Ni Yalo arrives in Suva this Saturday, 26 June 2010, three months after being away from home. It is due to arrive at 12pm at the Jetty, opposite the Handicraft Centre, Suva. Once they have been received by their families, they will be treated to a traditional welcome ceremony, followed by entertainment. Everyone is encouraged to come along and join in the welcome and to meet the crew. Please bring along your Fiji flags, wear your Fiji Islands Voyaging Society shirt, prepare and present floral leis, or just be there to show your support and be a part of this reception to honour our voyaging heroes.

Rescue Mission Market

The Rescue Mission Market returns on Saturday, 26 June 2010 at 50 Knollys Street, Suva. Breakfast opens at 7.30am while the market opens at 9am. Lakovi - A Play in the Fijian Language

The Fijians Trust Fund Board presents "Lakovi", a play in the Fijian language, from Wednesday, 30 June, to Saturday, 3 July 2010, at 7pm on each day at the Performance Space, University of the South Pacific, Laucala Bay, Suva. The play features Sera Fatafehi (2nd runner up, 2009 Fiji Hibiscus Festival) as Adi Kiviiwai and Ratu Vuki Nawalowalo as Setoki. 2010 Fête de la Musique/International Music Festival

The Alliance Francaise and its partners will hold the 2010 Fête de la Musique/International Music Festival from Monday, 12 July, to Saturday, 17 July 2010. The event includes daily workshops and nightly performances in various venues around Suva. The final and main full-day event will take place at Sukuna Park, Suva. The other partners include: the Embassy of France, the Embassy of Japan, the European Union, the Fiji Arts council, the Indian and South African High Commissions, and the University of the South Pacific. This festival is one of Fiji’s main musical and dance events, showcasing fresh, new talent, emerging artists, as well as seasoned entertainers. Our lineup so far includes singer Tom Mawi, Taikoz (Drumming Group from Japan), Lyfstyle (Soup Tavioka), A traditional dance group from Korea, the Police Marching Band, the Davui Ensemble, several traditional dance and music items by the Indian Cultural Centre, a professional Russian pianist, VOU dance group, the Conservatorium of Music, and a local nose-flute player, plus more! There may also be a band from New Caledonia to headline the main event on Saturday, 17 July. Entry to the events is free.

Vodafone MIC Show Season 3 will premier on Wednesday, 23 June 2010, on Fiji One Television. The show is a singing competition in the same strain as American Idol but on a more smaller scale.

2010 Olympic Day Fun Run

The 2010 Olympic Day Fun Run will be held on Saturday, 26 June 2010, starting 7.30am from the tfl National Stadium, Laucala Bay, Suva. The run will also end at the Stadium. There are several categories for competition : primary school individual, secondary school individual, masters individual, open individual, team, family group and athletes with disability. The major prize is a return trip to New Zealand. 500 free T-shirts available. Registration closes on Friday, 25 June 2010. Prison Market Day

The Fiji Prisons & Correctional Services is holding a Market Day on Saturday, 26 June 2010, at the Suva Foreshore in front of the Suva Civic Centre and Olympic Pool. During the day, products prepared by prisoners will be on display and sale. These include : art, handicraft and woodwork some of which were on display at the recent Fiji Showcase event.

Prisons Fellowship Gospel Charity Concert

The Gospel Charity Concert is being organised by the Prisons Fellowship on Saturday, 26 June 2010 at the Vodafone Arena, Laucala Bay, Suva. Groups to perform include :

Pacific Writing Forum and USP Bookshop sponsored Art Exhibition and Performance Night

A Pacific Writing Forum (PWF) and USP Bookshop sponsored Art Exhibition and Performance Night will be held on Thursday, 3 June 2010, starting 5.30pm at the Performance Space, University of the South Pacific, Laucala Bay, Suva. The Exhibition starts with exhibitions by three artists - Dervis Pavlovic, Irami Buli and Abraham Lagi who will have their works displayed at the Performance Space. Performances by the band "Who ate the pie?", the "Vou Dance Group", a fashion show organized by the fashion designer Shaziah Acraman and performances by other singers and poets, start at 6.30pm. 2010 Kaila Star Search

The 2010 Kaila Star Search auditions begin on Monday, 7 June and will be on until Friday, 11 June 2010, at the Suva Civic Auditorium. The second round of auditions will be held from Tuesday, 15 June to Friday, 18 June 2010. The first heat starts on Friday, 2 July with the second heat set for Friday, 16 July, and the third a week later on Friday, 23 July. Semi finals begin on Friday, 6 August with the finals scheduled for Friday, 21 August 2010.
