Films celebrating women and their cinematic work

As part of the celebrations for International Women's Day the Fiji Association of Women Graduates (FAWG) in partnership with a number of diplomatic missions will be showing a series of films over the coming weeks. This is an opportunity to catch some fantastic films celebrating women and their cinematic work. The first film, sponsored by the French Embassy, is 'Les Brodeuses' (A Common Thread) and will be shown on Tuesday, 9 March 2010, from 7pm at JJs on the Park, Suva. The film will be in French with English subtitles. Please see details below. Entry is by donation and all donations will go to FAWG's scholarship fund which supports the education of women in male-dominated areas (e.g. electrical and civil engineering) in Fiji. Light refreshments will be provided and a cash bar is available. For more details see the website: www.fawg.org.fj

    Les Brodeuses reviews

'At the film's heart is an acutely observed and sensitively played relationship between two people very much in need of one another: a mother grieving for a dead child, and a young girl initially hesitant at the prospect of giving birth herself.' BBCi films

'Superbly subdued performances from Lola Naymark and Ariane Ascaride; exquisitely beautiful mise-en-scène; a haunting score by Michael Galasso; and absolutely no sentimentality.' Movie Gazette
