New Year's Street Party

Another New Year's Street Party will be held in Suva on 31 December 2010 at Albert Park, Suva, will run from 7pm to to 1am, Friday, 1 January 2010. The event is geared towards the entertainment of the whole family so there will be activities/events for all age groups. This is an annual event in Suva.

Salvation Army Band performance at Tappoo City

The Salvation Army brass band is providing lunch hour entertainment at the Tappoo City Foodcourt in Suva. The Band will be performing each day this week from 11am to 2pm. This is part of the Band's mission to witness the birth of Christ at this time.

Small Boat Cruises at Nabukalou Creek

The Suva City Council has introduced small boat cruises at Nabukalou Creek, Suva. This is part of plans by the Council to introduce more leisure activities in the capital city. Check out the cruises.

Gamefishing Classic

National Conference - Education in Fiji

A National Conference on "Education in Fiji - Achievements, Issues and Challenges will be held from Monday, 22 November, to Wednesday, 24 November 2010, at the Fiji National University's Lautoka Campus. Savusavu Outrigger Regatta

An Outrigger Regatta will be held from Friday, 5 November, to Sunday, 7 November 2010, at Savusavu, Fiji. The Regatta is sponsored by Consort Shipping Limited. Events include :
  • race by Rabi Islanders using traditional canoes;
  • 500m sprints with modern V6 paddling canoes;
  • 30 km race for me;
  • 25 km race for women;
  • paddling course taking about 3 hours.

Clubs participating include Takia, Kaiwai, Tafaga, USP islanders, Nadi Bay, Nakama Bay. The Uto Ni Yalo will also be at Savusavu.

Annual Diwali Celebrations

The Fiji Hindu Society is organising its Annual Diwali Celebrations on Saturday, 30 October 2010, from 6.30pm onwards at Kshatriya Hall, Des Voeux Road, Suva. A cultural program will be on from 6.30pm to 8pm with dinner served at 8.15pm. Admission is F$7.00 per adult and F$3.00 per child between 5 and 12 years of age.

The Rotary Club of Suva will hold its annual Melbourne Cup Calcutta on Tuesday, 2 November 2010, from 12.30pm onwards at the Holiday Inn, Suva. A lunch ticket is selling for F$35.00 per person. The Asia Pacific Golf Federation Team Championship (APGC), The Nomura Cup 2011, will be held from 16 to 19 August 2011, at Denarau. This is an international tournament and Fiji is the first South Pacific Island nation to be selected from the APGC to host the tournament. The tournament will be played simultaneously at the Natadola and Denarau golf courses.

Afrika Performance by International School Students

The students of the International School Suva will present "Afrika" in its annual school drama production on Thursday, 23 September 2010, at the School's Multi Purpose Hall, Laucala Beach Estate, Suva. The drama is based on a story of a lion cub and is an adaptation of the Broadway presentation.

A Kids Triathlon will be held on Saturday, 18 September 2010, starting 1pm at the University of the South Pacific Pool, Laucala Bay, Suva. Kids should be between 8 and 16 years of age. Fiji Fashion Week - Art Exhibition

The 2010 Fiji Fashion Week organisers are introducing an Art Exhibition this year. For those interested to participate, fashion must be used as a source of inspiration for artwork e.g. a model, clothing, a hairstyle, catwalk scene, etc. The exhibition will show how the borders between art and fashion are blurred and how these disciplines continually link and influence each other. The special fashion feature this year is a Frangipani. The artwork must include a frangipani in whatever shape or form you wish to portray it. The three categories of the competition include : Painting; Sketch; and Photograph. A brief of less than 200 words must accompany each entry. Work must be submitted to the Fiji Fashion Week office no later than 5pm, Monday, 4 October 2010. All entries will be auctioned on Monday, 18 October with 80% of proceeds going to the entrant and 20% going to the Fiji Fashion Week to cover operating costs. Great Western Fiji Day Boat Race

The Great Western Fiji Day Boat Race will be held on Saturday, 9 October 2010. Boaties will be able to enjoy a skill based competition along the same lines as the famous Suva-Levuka-Suva Yacht Race. The race will take boats to Vomo and back to Musket Cove for an overnight stay. Musket Cove will provide free mooring space for all entries and a great deal on accommodation. The following day will be the fishing competition with weigh-in again at Musket Cove, followed by a barbacue dinner. Funds raised will go to the Western Cancer Society and the Fiji Kidney Foundation. 1st Hibiscus Cycling Fiji Race

The first Hibiscus Cycling Fiji Race will be held on Saturday, 28 August 2010, from 12pm to 1pm, starting from Suva Market and end at Albert Park, Suva. The event will precede the annual float procession at the 2010 Fiji Hibiscus Festival. Registration begins at 12pm. Lots of prizes, mobile phones, digital picture frames and more, to be won.

2010 Digicel Cup Final

Naitasiri and Nadroga will play for the 2010 Digicel Rugby Cup Final on Saturday, 21 August 2010, starting 3pm at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori. Nausori is close to Suva.

2010 Fiji Secondary Schools Dean Rugby Trophy Finals

Ratu Kadavulevu School and Lelean Memorial School will play for the Under 19 Fiji Secondary Schools Deans Trophy Finals this Saturday, 21 August 2010, at Churchill Park, Lautoka.

2010 National Junior Chess Championships

The 2010 National Junior Chess Championships sponsored by Flour Mill of Fiji will be held on Sunday, 22 August 2010, at the Pasifika Campus, Suva. Competition will be in several age categories including U20, U18, U16, U14 and U12. There will also be prizes for best secondary/primary schools student. The winner of the National Junior Championships will take part in the Nationals in November.

Fiji's Biggest Morning Tea

Fiji's Biggest Morning Tea returns to Fiji on Thursday, 26 August 2010. The initiative is one where organisations arrange morning teas at their own offices where staff and friends are invited to enjoy and at the same time donate some money towards the Fiji Cancer Society. It is now an annual event on Fiji's social calendar.

2010 Tadra Kahani

The 2010 Tadra Kahani returns to Suva on 18 and 19 August 2010. The primary schools competition will be held on Wednesday, 18 August, while the secondary schools competition will be on Thursday, 19 August. Twenty four schools are participating in this annual creative arts, dance and music show. The theme for 2010 is "Dream Story Stage Show". Events will be held at the Vodafone Arena, Laucala Bay, Suva.

The Mr Suva Bodybuilding Competition will be held on Friday, 20 August 2010, at Albert Park as part of the opening night of the 2010 Fiji Hibiscus Festival. Weigh-in will be held on Thursday, 19 August 2010, from 1pm to 5pm at the Charman's Club, Suva. Top competitors expected to participate include Inoke Ligairi who won the Mr Buksh Bodybuilding Competition two months ago, and the current Mr Suva, Emosi Baleinuku.

2010 Fiji Fashion Week - Modelling Workshop

The 2010 Fiji Fashion Week organisers will be holding a Modelling Workshop on Saturday, 21 August, and Sunday, 22 August 2010, from 8am to 3pm on each day. The Workshop will be facilitated by Nikola Koke, Model Mentor for Australia's Next Top Model who is also an International Casting Director and Model Scout. Topics to be covered include :
  • the art of being a professional model;
  • life stories direct from the European catwalks;
  • attitude;
  • facial features;
  • developing strong and weak points;
  • self esteem;
  • physical features;
  • how to utilise and command focus on your best features;
  • posture and alignment techniques;
  • walking, etc.

The entry fees are F$30.00 per person. Dress code will be white t-shirt and blue jeans with no makeup or jewellery.

USP's Inaugural 3-minute Thesis Competition 2010

The University of the South Pacific is holding the Inaugural 3-minute Thesis Competition on Friday, 20 August 2010, from 5pm to 8pm at the Marine Studies Lecture Theatre, Laucala Bay, Suva. This even will see about 20 postgraduate research students present a compelling oration of their original research in 3 minutes using a single slide and is sponsored jointly by the European Union, the USP and its Book Centre. The event is open to the public.

The 2010 Battle of the Giants matches to be played in Suva will be held on Sunday, 15 August 2010, starting 12pm, at the tfl National Stadium, Laucala Bay, Suva. The matches will be as follows :
