2010 Suva Rugby Festival

Taken from the Suva Rugby Union Social Network Site

The Suva Rugby Festival in January 2010 will kick off a week of exhilarating rugby action and entertainment with the Suva Rugby Union Invitational 10s Tournament on Monday and Tuesday 18-19 January 2010.

“We have 58 teams affiliated to the Suva Rugby Union,” organizing committee chairman Vilikesa Rauca explained, “and most of the bigger forwards are more suited to 10s so this section will keep them happy before we move to 7s later in the week.”

The SRU Invitational 10s will comprise 32 teams and will be played at Suva’s Albert Park, which forms the focus of the festival before the games kick off at the TFL National Stadium on Thursday 21 January.

Suitably, the Golden Oldies section will also be played at Albert Park, which was the home of Test rugby in Fiji from 1926 to 1948 before international games moved to Buckhurst Park.

“Albert Park carries a significant amount of history for the City of Suva and also the Suva Rugby Union,” Mr Rauca explained. “It has always been the home of Suva club rugby right from the SRU’s founding in 1913, and it hosted Fiji’s first home Test series in 1926 against Tonga as well as the first two Test series against the New Zealand Maori in 1938 and 1948.”

Albert Park is also renown as one of the stopping points for Charles Kingsford Smith when he became the first person to fly across the Pacific in June 1928 in his Fokker FVII monoplane, Southern Cross.

The addition of the SRU Invitational 10s brings to eight the number of rugby categories for the Suva Rugby Festival. It also means that 188 rugby teams are scheduled to participate in the festival in addition to the 64 teams from touch rugby and netball.

The Suva Rugby Festival is the start of celebrations for the SRU’s centenary in 2012. The Suva 7s Series, also organised by the Suva Rugby Union, will comprise three regional tournaments in Suva, Lautoka. Blog Readership : July 2009 vs June 2009

We provide you with statistics on our blog readership. Here are the readership statistics for our Promoting Suva blog for the months of July and June 2009. Data for June is given first followed by data for July. June 2009 July 2009 Observations
  • Readership of the blog fell for the first time over the month of July 2009 from a record high recorded in June 2009.
  • Page views over a month was still over 3,000 but had dropped to 3,148 from over 3,700 for the first time in June 2009.
  • Readers from Fiji, Australia, USA, New Zealand, United Kingdom and Canada continue to form our largest readership group being over 80% of our blog readers. Readers from these countries can best be targeted for marketing from this blog.
  • Our top referring site continues to be google.com. The high referrals from google.com indicates our continued strong and high visibility on google searches. Our site's search ranking on Google continues to do well with most searches, e.g. for 'Suva activities', 'Suva events', 'Suva Sports', 'Suva art', 'Suva craft', 'Suva tourist activities', 'Suva shopping', our site usually appears on Page 1.
  • Keyword searches indicate that readers are searching for a broad range of issues from individuals, to activities, to places and sights, to shopping and art. Most notable over the month of July is the rise in searches for the upcoming Fiji Hibiscus Festival which takes place in August 2009. Also notable is the sustained high searches for commercial/shopping companies e.g. Courts Homecentres, Tappoos, MHCC, etc. We note that there is now a move towards more online shopping rather than our readers merely searching for activities and events.
  • We have also noticed that readers are now spending more time going through our blog i.e. our blog's stickiness has risen.

Companies can utilise our wide readership base and high search rankings to market and advertise their products. For advertising to our wide readership base, check our advertising rates here.
