2009 TFL Young Mussos Acclaim

The 2009 Young Mussos' Acclaim, Fiji Secondary Schools Original Song Competition will be held on Friday, 1 May 2009, from 6.30pm at the Tattersalls Leisure Centre (former National Gymnasium), Laucala Bay, Suva. Prizes to be won include :
  • 1st Prize of F$2,000.00;
  • 2nd Prize of F$1,500.00;
  • 3rd Prize of F$1,000.00;
  • Special Prize of F$800.00;
  • Prize for Original Song; and
  • Congratulatory Prizes of F$200.00 each.

The event is organised by teh Fiji Performing Rights Association Limited and is sponsored by Telecom Fiji Limited.

2009 Hibiscus Festival - Expression of Interest

The 2009 Hibiscus Festival is now seeking expressions of interest from citizens that are interested to take part in the pageant which will be held from 21 to 29 August 2009 at Albert Park, Suva. Categories include :
  • Hibiscus King - for 20 to 30 year old single males;
  • Hibiscus Princess - for 8 to 10 year old girls;
  • Hibiscus Teen - for 14 to 17 year old teenage girls;
  • Lady Hibiscus - for 26 years and over ladies as well as those 18 years old who are married or are mothers;
  • Hibiscus Queen - for ladies between 18 and 25 years old, single and never married.

'Whale Rider': Film

The Fiji Association of Women Graduates in celebrating the International Women's Day 2009, will be screening the film 'Whale Rider' by Niki Caro on Thursday, 26 February 2009, starting 6:30pm at the Lecture Theatre 1, Fiji Institute of Technology Raiwai Campus, Carpenter Street, Raiwai. The film is about a young girl who dared to confront the past, change the present and determine the future. Admission is free. The Writings of Savenaca Siwatibau - Book Launch

A book launch of "The Writings of Savenaca Siwatibau", former Governor of the Reserve Bank of Fiji and Vice Chancellor of the University of the South Pacific, will be held on Monday, 23 February 2009, from 1pm to 2pm at the AusAid Lecture Theatre, University of the South Pacific, Laucala Bay, Suva.

Sign Language Course

A Sign Language Course will be held from Monday, 16 February 2009, to Wednesday, 29 July 2009, at the Vocation Centre, 3 Brown Street, Toorak, Suva. The course will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays over that period from 5.30pm to 7pm on each day. Course fees are F$50.00 per person.

2009 Buksh Bodybuilding Competition

The 2009 Buksh Bodybuilding Competition will be held on Saturday, 18 April 2009. The event is being sponsored by Mohammed Buksh, a former Fiji resident, who now lives in Canada. Veteran bodybuilder, Ponipate Radua, won the event in 2008.

Netball Fiji Gala Night

Netball Fiji will host a Gala Dinner Night on Saturday, 21 February 2009, at the Noble House Restaurant, Flagstaff, Suva to raise funds for the national Under 21 side. Tickets are F$70.00 per person and includes a 10-course seated banquet and drinks.

2009 Marist 7s Tournament

The 2009 Marist 7s Rugby Tournament will be held over the coming week on Friday, 20 February, and Saturday, 21 February at the National Stadium, Laucala Bay, Suva. No overseas teams have been confirmed to participate at the tournament which will be made up of local teams.
