Tadra Kahani 2008

Preparations for Tadra Kahani 2008 are now on with participating schools from around Fiji working on perfecting their items for the show. The show this year will be held on Wednesday, 13 August, and Thursday, 14 August 2008, at the Vodafone Arena, Laucala Bay, Suva.

Oral Health Month

August is Oral Health Month in Fiji. The month's program will be launched on Friday, 1 August 2008, from 12pm at Sukuna Park, Suva. The Police Jazz Band will provide entertainment. Activities scheduled during the month include :
  • Free dental checks at selected supermarkets on Saturdays, 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 August;
  • Free dental checks at selected private dental clinics Fiji wide;
  • Colgate Toothpaste and Colgate Toothbrush from Dr Rabbit at selected stores and supermarkets.

Great Teitei Competition for Schools

A competition on planting vegetables for primary and secondary schools in Fiji has started. The objective of the competition is for planting for a better healthier life and to help make sure that Fiji has an adequate supply of food. It is geared towards encouraging youth in Fiji to grow more vegetables and fruits. The competition is divided into four school divisions : West, East, South and North with the winning primary and secondary school in each division to win F$1,000.00 each. It runs from 22 July 2008 to 21 October 2008. For more information, pls contact the Agricultural Office near your school.

Suva Secondary Schools Music Festival

A Choral Celebration by Suva Secondary Schools will be held on 22, 23 and 24 July 2008, 6pm, at the Tattersalls National Gymnasium, Laucala Bay, Suva. 12 Schools and 400 Students will perform at the Celebration. There will be special performances by the Pasifika Voices (formally known as the Malaga Singers) and the Suva Community Gospel Choir. Admissions are F$5.00 per adult and F$2.00 per child under 12. Eye on the Street Photography Competition

The CLGF Pacific Project's "Pacific Urban Art Initiative" and the Alliance Francaise is organising an Eyes on the Street Photography Competition to capture unique scenes, buildings and activity that people identify with in their cities and towns. Photos will be judged on technical quality and interpretation of themes. Submissions are due by Friday, 12 September 2008 with the winners announced by Saturday, 4 October 2008. 2008 Fiji Showcase Ends

The 2008 Fiji Showcase, a shopping event, has ended. The event which showcases products and services from a diverse range of merchants and organisations forms part of Suva's shopping calendar. Products and services are of top quality and are usually sold at discount. The event has a better reputation than the Suva-on-Sale event which has been known of recent years to be a dumping ground for excess stock of cheap quality. Shoppers around Fiji now make a point of visiting Suva when the annual Fiji Showcase is on. The event is scheduled around July each year.

Suva Landmark being demolished

The Raiwai and Raiwaqa four storey flats, a landmark of Suva, are being demolished to make way for apartments. The flats which provided low cost housing for low income earning families have been stripped and will be brought down over the next few weeks. The landmark have been part of Suva's landscape for around 40 years and were known a while back for its notorious youth groups. The area has also bred people who have moved on to successful careers in various fields. The flats are being managed by the Public Rental Board.

Fiji Museum Exhibition

There will be an exhibition from Saturday 12 July, to Monday 11 August, 2008, excluding Sundays, at the Fiji Museum in Suva. The exhibition presents highlights on Fijian and Oceanic works, as well as architectural innovations such as vertical gardening. Multi Ethnic Cultural Centre

The Fiji Multi Ethnic Cultural Centre in Suva, is offering classes in Classical and Contemporary Dance. The International School Suva is offering a 10 week programme beginning on Monday 14 July, 2008.
