Media & Development : Issues and Challenges in the Pacific Islands

Basic Computing Skills for Office Workers

A Basic Computing Skills for Office Workers course is being organised by the Continuing and Community Education Centre, University of the South Pacific, from Tuesday, 1 July, to Friday, 11 July 2008. Classes run from 5.15pm to 8.15pm at the School of Computing Post Graduate Computer Lab, University of the South Pacific, Laucala Bay, Suva. The course will cover :

Mai TV has launched its test signal for the Suva, Nausori and Navua areas. For those that live in that area, watching the new TV channel is free. 2008 Fiji Music Fest

The 2008 Fiji Music Fest will be held on the 20th of June, from 4pm till late and on the 21st of June from 10am till late. This musical event will be free and venues for Friday include Holiday Inn, Ratu Sukuna Park, Esquire, Dragon Music, Golden Dragon, Birdland, O’Reillys, Traps. For Saturday, the main show will be the 2008 VTY Fijian Idol, followed by free big concerts with major Fijian Bands and Dance Groups (including hip-hop). The Guest Artist for the day will be the “Simple Roots” from New Caledonia.

2008 Olympic Day Run

The 2008 Olympic Day Run will be held on the 21st of June, 2008 at 7:30 am from the Suva National Stadium Car Park. The event will feature 7 categories:

Fiji Awards for Media Excellence 2008 - Call for Entries

The Media Council of Fiji created the annual FAME program to honour the achievements of the many media professionals in Fiji. The awards, which cover all categories of media communication, provide for recognition of insight, analysis, creativity and entertainment. They are open to all organisations that publicly present information to the general public through any form of print or electronic format. Now in its fourth year, FAME 2008 promises to be bigger than ever with more categories and more awards. Fiji Boxing Monthly Competition

Fiji Boxing Federation's monthly competition starts with effect from 24 June 2008 at the Raiwai Youth Club, Raiwai, Suva. The competitions will serve as a trial to select the national team to participate at the South Pacific Mini-Games to be held at the Cook Islands in August 2008.
