Rucksack Club Meeting
There will be a meeting of the Rucksack Club on Wednesday, 10 October 2007, from 6.45pm, at the St Andrews Church hall, corner of Gordon and Goodenough Street, Suva. The topic of discussion will be "The Hydrology and Glaciology of Antarctica – The Dry Valleys". Lloyd Smith had participated in the study of variations in the climate within the dry valleys of Antarctica; a small but unique area, largely snow and ice free, with free flowing rivers and large freshwater lakes. The importance of this area in climatic change monitoring is only evident in recent years, with implications of the greatest freshwater storage on the planet melting and affecting Pacific Island countries thousands of miles away.
