Lord Mayor's plans for Suva

The Lord Mayor of Suva, Ratu Peni Volavola, has plans to change the scenery around the capital's foreshore. In an interview in the Sunday Times, 12 August 2007, the Lord Mayor said that he and other civic minded developers has a plan to reclaim the coastline and put sandy beaches on the Suva foreshore. The plan is to help change current perception of how people view Suva. Ratu Volavola said that Suva could learn from the example of Waikiki Beach, Hawaii, which had been developed from a mangrove setting to one of the finest foreshore settings in the world.
