USA begins construction of F$30 million embassy in Suva

The United States of America began construction of a F$30 million Embassy complex in Suva on Saturday, 9 June 2007. The complex will be located at Tamavua and is just further up the road from where the Australian High Commission is situated. The complex will comprise 4,600 square meters of office space and housing for American and local employees and will be built in a mixture of American and Fijian designs. The US Ambassador said that the construction of the new Embassy is a sign of the US' ongoing commitment to Fiji and the Pacific Islands region. Construction will take 2 years.
