President to launch Fijian dictionary
The President, Ratu Josefa Iloilo, will launch Fiji's first monolingual Fijian dictionary on Friday at the Civic Centre in Suva. The dictionary is based on the Bauan dialect which is commonly used by Fijians. The publication of the dictionary is expected to set the platform for the publication of Fijian vernacular materials as it would bring uniformity in grammar, spelling and word usage. In the meantime, the Institute of Fijian Language and Culture is continuing work to identify missing words and make amendments to the first edition.
