Fiji Visitors Bureau happy with visitor arrival numbers in 2006
The Fiji Visitors Bureau is pleased with visitor arrival figures for 2006 although it was 6% lower than the Bureau's target. Final figures released indicates that there was 545,168 visitors to Fiji last year compared with the Bureau's target of 576,000. Australian and New Zealand tourists topped the list of visitors numbering 197,742 and 108,347, respectively. Despite the political events on early December 2006, a total of 16,121 Australians and 6,139 New Zealanders came to Fiji for the holidays. With aggressive marketing being done by the authorities and the high discounts being offered, the Bureau hopes that it will achieve its aim of having a F$1 billion industry this year.
