Bird Protection in the South Pacific gets funding

The Birdlife International Pacific, a Suva based organisation that helps protect endangered birds in the Pacific has received a funding of over F$700,000.00 from the British Bird Fair. The funds are to be used in projects aimed at protecting endangered parrots in the Pacific Islands region. Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, New Caledonia and Samoa will focus on protecting 5 endangered species including the Ultramarine lorikeet in French Polynesia and the Uvea parakeet in New Caledonia. Also part of the project would be a search for the red-throat lorikeet which has not been seen in the last 10 years.
