New bank opens in Suva

A new bank, Bank South Pacific Limited (BSP), will open in Suva today. BSP, from Papua New Guinea, acquired the operations of Habib Bank Limited of Pakistan. The bank will operate from the same premises that was used by Habib Bank. BSP is the largest bank in PNG. Visitors to Suva can access ATMs at most parts of the city. Most of these ATMs accept international credit cards - you can see whether the machine will accept your card if the card symbol is displayed next to the ATM. The only bank that does not offer ATM services are Bank of Baroda. Plans by BSP to offer electronic banking services are yet to be seen. Banks have recently also extended their opening hours to 4pm daily. ANZ and Colonial have a few of their branches open until midday on Saturdays.
