Consumers more confident

Business is booming again for Suva retailers after consumers regained confidence after the military take-over of government a fortnight ago. Some businesses said that they had to resort to extraordinary marketing techniques to improve sales. Morris Hedstroms, one of the largest supermarket chains in Fiji, said that consumer spending at their stores increased last week. The store said that people's confidence had returned and that they were buying items on hire purchase and gifts for their families and friends for Christmas. After the Christmas and New Year shopping spree, families start buying school items for their children for the new school year which starts late January 2007. While some families will be enjoying their Christmas and New Year, we should also say a prayer and, if possible, help those whose father, mother, brother and sister, lost jobs as a result of the political crisis.
