Pacific rich in talent

There is no legitimate reason for the Pacific region to accept second-best status because it is rich in talent and resources. The comment was made by the Vice Chancellor of the University of the South Pacific while opening a colourful USP Open Day at the Laucala Campus in Suva yesterday. The theme for the Open Day was Your Future, Our Future - Dare to Lead. The VC said the diversity of its students was an important factor that allowed them to be richly equipped for the challenges of the future. "For our students, this unique USP experience confers life long benefits. Not only does an education in this environment of diverse nationalities, religions, cultures, ethnic groups and languages enhance the educational experience and attitudes of tolerance and understanding, but lifelong networks across the region are born and nutured. This can only be good for regional cooperation and development", the VC said.
