Island delegation heads for festival

The Lauan Province's delegation to the 3rd Melanesian Arts & Cultural Festival are on their way to Suva to showcase their skills and culture. An official for the province said the province would be well represented at the festival and was eager to show other Melanesian countries the cultures and traditions of the Lau group. The delegation has representatives from all islands in the group who would bring with them what they are renowned for. The people of Fulaga have finished their double hulled canoe that would be the main attraction for the delegation. Women of Ono-i-Lau would present the "tabu kaisi" mats whereas Kabara would showcase their different sizes of tanoa. The islands of Nayau, Moce and Oneata would bring their "masi" and "gatu" in different shapes and sizes. Lakeba, on the other hand, would showcase how their "sisi" or traditional garlands were made. These are just some of the things that the people who visit the festival can expect from the Lau section. To top it off, more than 170 dancers from Loama would grace the closing ceremony at the festival. So, be in Suva, to watch all the events for a lifetime experience.
