India enters Hobie races
Fiji's Hobie fleet 252 is preparing to host a surprise entry at the forthcoming Air Pacific sponsored South Pacific Championships at Pacific Harbour from 18 to 24 August 2006. For the first time, the India team has decided to send its national Hobie racing ream to the South Pacific Championships. "This event is becoming widely respected in the Pacific region, now, as an event of high quality competition, but at the same time, fairly laidback, in the tradition of the Pacific Way", according to Grahame Southwick, President of the Fiji Hobie Association. "Countries on the Pacific rim are using this competition to rank their national teams, and we are happy about that as it bodes well for the future of the event", Southwick added. This year's event is attracting competitors from Australia, NZ, the USA, Hong Kong, Indonesia, India and Korea. "Fiji is popular as a great holiday destination, so the event becomes a family holiday as well, safe and warm. Fiji is the number one preferred destination for those wishing to race in winter", Southwick said.
