Art Council seeks best artwork

The Fiji Arts Council held craft fairs in the Central, Western and Northern Divisions to select the best work to be displayed at the National Craft Exhibition. The exhibition starts tomorrow at Sukuna Park, Suva, and will run until Saturday. Every year, professional artists, skilled craft people, art promoters, buyers, sellers and the public meet for the event. The Council is collaborating events geared toward Fiji hosting the 3rd Melanesian art and cultural festival to be held in Suva from 2 to 11 October, 2006. The Council said, "As we are focussing on the national theme of the festival 'Living Cultures and Living Traditions', staging such crafts competition at this phase in Fiji's artistic history is essential at it will contribute to identify the creativity, talent, skills and knowledge of crafts people who will be selected to showcase or demonstrate their works with other Melanesian counterparts during the 10 days." Note : For those coming to Suva for the Melanesia Festival of Arts in October 2006, a two bedroom furnished home is available for accommodation. Details can be viewed and the home booked with links at the right hand side of this blog or call direct +679 3396427; e-mail gilbert@connect.com.fj.
