Multi-million dollar deal for 7s Rugby
The Fiji Rugby Unio has secured a multi-million dollar sponsorship through a new partnership with international mobile telecommunications company, Digicel. Under the sponsorship agreement, the Caribbean based company will become FRU's telecommunications partner and sole sponsor of the Fiji 7s team. Included in the arrangement are financial bonuses to players linked to successful results on the field. Digicel's vision for Fiji is that it will become the headquarters of its pan South Pacific network as it expands across the region. Last month, Digicel, in alliance with the Ba Provincial Holding, received an initial approval from the Government of Fiji for the grant of a licence to provide mobile telecommunications services in Fiji. Over the past five years, Digicel has created the largest GSM network in the Caribbean with operations in 20 countries covering a total population of more than 15 million and employing over 2,000 people.
