August opening for new Rewa Bridge

The opening of the new Rewa Bridge, Nausori, should take place in August according to the Public Works Department (PWD). PWD said all the groundwork for the project was nearing completion and everything was on schedule for the opening in August. The new bridge will have four lanes, two lanes each way as well as pedestrian walkways, two meters wide on both sides of the bridge. The European Union contributed F$23.6 million towards the F$30 million project, with the balance coming from Government. It is not clear what will happen to the old bridge. I am sure that it will remain as it is and will be a good tourist attraction. The opening of the new bridge will help further boost Suva's potential as a tourist and business centre, coupled with the planned expansion and upgrade of the Nausori airport to cater for more international and domestic flights. August brings a lot of activities to Suva with two being the Annual Methodist Choir Competition at Ratu Cakobau Park and the Hibiscus Beauty and Charity Pageant (returning after a few years of being a non-feature on Suva's social and fun calendar) at Albert Park. Please read the list of "Upcoming Events in Suva" on this blog for more information on what is happening in and around Suva.
