Melanesian Arts Festival preparations launched
Preparations for the Melanesian Arts and Cultural Festival to be held from 2 to 10 October in Suva, was launched yesterday. About 300 guests gathered to mark the occasion and witness the launch of a new website about Melanesian arts and culture. Traditional Fijian dances were performed and the choir sang the festival song. The Melanesian Spearhead Group member countries are the ones who will be participating in the festival. These include Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, and New Caledonia. The coordinators said that the festival gathering was not only to showcase the best of Melanesian culture but they were move into trying to preserve their almost forgotten culture.
